While I enjoy making his food (it’s so easy and so much cheaper), sometimes bringing the food, the bib, the spoon, and all of the other paraphernalia with us on-the-go just isn’t an option. When I discovered these Hello Little Monsters Reusable Food Pouches, I was sold. Then they came in the mail and I was sold all over again. They’re a great size, easy to fill, and they’re dishwasher safe (major mom-win!). The Little Monster buddies on the front of the pouches are fun and brightly colored. I gave Liam an empty pouch to play with while I filled another with food and he was having a ball playing with it and looking at the monsters.

I whipped up some Apple Pie Baby Food and was able to pour it straight from the bowl to the pouch. We gave them a try and Liam was seriously into it. He tends to get really impatient when eating with a spoon because I can’t get the food from the bowl to his mouth fast enough for him. (Little chunk!) The pouches totally eliminate that problem. The food is readily available to him as quickly as he would like it (which is pretty quick, the boy doesn’t mess around when it comes to food). He made quite a mess with it, but that isn’t really a problem for me. I always strip him down before feeding him. I try to encourage him to have fun while eating and to be independent, and that tends to get pretty messy with or without a spoon. The Double Zipper closure on the pouch was easy for me to open and close, but not so easy that his little fingers could open it.

The final test was the most important test for me. The cleaning test. For the sake of science, I chose to wash one pouch in the dishwasher and one by hand. The verdict is that both ways work great. The whole bottom of the pouch opens up, making them easy to get into by hand without the need for a special bottle brush. I worried that in the dishwasher, the pouch would close itself and not get clean on the inside, or that the heat from the dishwasher would ruin it. I could not have been more wrong. It came out spotless and still in perfect condition.

We brought one of the pouches on-the-go to Maw Maw’s house. It didn’t bust open in the diaper bag and the cap stayed tight. He still loved eating from it, and Maw Maw was ever-so-impressed with how cute and convenient they were.

That Apple Pie Baby Food mentioned earlier sound good? I thought so too. I’ve mentioned my love of pie before. I seriously have a birthday pie every year instead of a birthday cake. As one of those weird people who finds cake and icing disgusting, pie is where it’s at for me. One of my favorites has always been some good ol’ homemade apple pie. Mmmm. It always reminds me of Thanksgiving at my parent’s house. After having a craving for some apple pie last week, I was eager to find a way to make something similar for Liam with no added sugar. Apples are always a hit with him and Apple Pie was no different. Check the recipe out below!

Apple Pie Baby Food

Ingredients:

  • 2 apples (I used 1 Granny Smith and 1 Honeycrisp)
  • 2-3 tsp prepared Baby Oatmeal
  • 1/2 inch peeled fresh ginger
  • pinch cinnamon
  • pinch nutmeg
  • pinch cloves
  • water as needed for consistency

Method:

Peel and chop apples into chunks and steam. You can steam on the stove top, using a steamer, or in the microwave. I microwave them in a bowl with a splash of water for about 3 minutes. Meanwhile, prepare Baby Oatmeal. Add apples and Baby Oatmeal to blender with ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, and water. Blend to desired consistency (we still go for very smooth purees, but will go chunkier as Liam gets older). Check the temperature, spoon or pour into a Hello Little Monsters Reusable Food Pouches and serve.

  1. I have some similar to this! Not same brand, but I love these reusable pouches! They are so useful and save a lot of money instead of buying the grocery store pouches!

  2. This post couldn’t have come at a better time. I recently just watched (and posted) and terrble video of a mom discovering a case full of mouldy apple sauce only after her child said it was yucky. I have always been diligent about emptying any pouches of food before giving them to my son, but having and using a product like this would be so incredibly convenient. Too bad I live in Canada or else i would be all over your giveaway! Thanks for sharing!
